Sandy Hook Lighthouse, New Jersey c. 1764 – image: 10 x 8, framed 19.5 x 17, triple matted

Built in 1764, the Sandy Hook Light still burns each night making it the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in America. Although the lighthouse is located in New Jersey, this octagon structure was known as New York City’s lighthouse since the money to construct it was raised in New York and it served primarily to traffic ships bound for that port.
